The forms in these works are taken from my home, a space shared by  two adults and one child. I have distorted the relative scale, disrupted the visual systems, and recombined the forms to produce new proximities and alignments.

Sarah Irvin is an American visual artist. She received a BFA from the University of Georgia (2008) and an MFA from George Mason University (2016). Her work has been featured in international exhibits and conferences on feminist theory and practice and in numerous solo exhibitions.

I work to produce visual knowledge about reproduction, caretaking, gender, and the body. The forms in these works are taken from my home, a space shared by  two adults and one child. I have distorted the relative scale, disrupted the visual systems, and recombined the forms to produce new proximities and alignments. The results are compositions that reorient the forms of domestic objects and the toys that replicate these objects to have similar visual weight. Through this process I consider how the material space of home impacts a sense of self and other within the parent/child relationship, and how engagement with the material world aids in the development of social constructs.
